Puntland Ministry of Women and Family Affairs Celebrates Human Rights Day and Conclusion of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

Puntland Ministry of Women and Family affairs and Puntland Human Rights Office co-organized very colorful occasion to mark Human Rights Day and the final day of the global campaign, 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

The event took place in Garowe , the capital city of puntland State in attendance of top Puntland government officials including Puntland Minister of Women and family Affairs Dr anisa Abulqadir Haji Mumin ,Puntland Minister of Education Dr. Abshir yusuf isse, traditional leaders, members of the Puntland local authorities, International community representatives , the members of the civil society , Media organizations and hundreds of women

Puntland minister of education Dr Abshir aw yusuf isse noted the value to protect the rights of women, and he said that "Accomplishing this goal requires a deep commitment to quality education for women and children”

In her speech at the conclusion of the ceremony, the Minister of Women and Family Development said that her ministry and its partners from the United Nations organizations and international organizations have achieved in 2016 notable successes in reducing Gender-Based Violence

She added that the Puntland state of somalia is number one in this regard in Somalia due to the tremendous efforts and ongoing work carried out by her ministry and its partners

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign which takes place each year and runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day), also encompassing other important key dates. Widely known as the ‘16 Days Campaign’, it is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
