His Excellency the Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by the President of the Federal State of Puntland in Somalia, Dr. Said Abdullahi Dini, cut the ribbon for the inauguration on the first phase of construction of the Garacad Sea port in the Mudug region in Puntland state of somalia.
Several officials from the federal and regional governments, officials from the governments of Ethiopia and Kenya and other guests of honor attended.
Garacad Port is the largest privately funded Somali project in Somalia and the largest locally funded mega project in the Horn of Africa.
The opening of the first phase of the strategic port of Garad represents a quantum leap in the economic and social development in Puntland State and in central Somalia. This is because the port will greatly facilitate the import and export of food and agricultural products, in addition to supporting small and medium enterprises and linking local markets with regional ones and the beginning of a major shift in geostrategic ties in the entire region.
