On a visit by a private jet, the President of the Federal State of Puntland in Somalia, Mr. Saed Abdullah Dini, arrived today in Alula District in the far north-east of Somalia, accompanied by a delegation from his government.
The President and his accompanying delegation were received at Alula Airport by members of the government councils, the administration of Alula District and the Guardafui province , and the various sections of Alula community.
A statement issued by the presidential palace in the Puntland state of Somalia stated that the purpose of President Deni's visit is to monitor the situation in the region, and to lay the foundation stone for projects to be implemented by the Puntland government in the region.
But observers question, the government's claim, and say the unannounced goal of the president's visit is to lay the foundation stone for a military base that the Puntland state government gave to the UAE, which is rejected by the residents of the region altogether.
This is the first time that the President of Puntland State, Dr Said abdulaahi Denni, visit the the Gardafu region in eastern Puntland since his election.
