Media sources confirm that the President of Puntland State, Mr. Saeed Abdullah Dini, will sign a new agreement under which Puntland and the United Arab Emirates will cooperate in the field of security and development.
According to the agreement, a Puntland and UAE military base will be established in Ras-Esayr Gardafu, which is the highest point in Somalia.
The aim of the UAE in this new agreement is to influence this important waterway and to get a share of the powerful economy that will emerge.
The United States opposed this agreement at first, because it was a full military base, but now, it has been changed to a sharing and security cooperation agreement that the UAE wants to overcome the objection of the United States.
